Hi there! This is Lauren from 1962. I hope it's okay if I added you. (I'm not entirely sure how the adding thing works here!) I figure we have so much in common I might as well ;) I'm so glad you have a Marilyn community thats active and where the people are all so nice. It's one of the main reasons I joined LJ actually. I wanted to also ask you more about your work, if that's okay with you. I figured I would respond here instead of writing some big comment on 1962 that was totally unrelated to Marilyn. :) So you're an extra..that's so awesome. I have been toying with the idea of trying to get work as an extra and from there see what happens. Could you share how you got started and such? I've done my research just looking around at different websites but nothing really tells you how to get started. I live about an hour or so from LA and it would nice to help offset the cost of college. When I was a little girl I was offered work as a model but my parents wouldn't let me, they didn't want me to grow up in that environment. They still don't approve of me wanting to be an actress. But part of me thinks it's worth it to give it a shot. Long story shot, any advice or anything you could give me would be so greatly appreciated. Thanks so much and sorry for the long post.
Let's see... the extra work thing. I got started by going with Central Casting. Go to www.entertainmentpartners.com for more info. You basically go down to their office (which is in Burbank I think) and sign in with them. They take a photo of you which they keep on file. Then you call a hotline and listen to see if shows need someone like you. They'll say what type of girl they need, and if it applies to you, you call in and book yourself. As for extra work helping to offset the cost of college... possibly. The driving time might make it tough. But it is nice that you can book yourself and decide what days work for you. It's not the best for money, but it does get you on the sets which can lead to opportunities.
I'm still trying to figure out this whole Hollywood game myself, so I'm not sure if I have the best advice. All I know is I check LA Casting on-line and Craigslist and look for any work that will build my experience and portfolio. I also plan to audition for a play at one of the theatres, which is also good exposure.
Hello, I'm a member of the 1962 community. I have read some of your comments to others, and I have taken from some remarks that you are an actress. I am majoring in Theater currently, and hope to move out to either New York, Chicago, or L.A. to pursue my dream of becoming a motion picture actress. I have wanted to add you for a while, but I am a puss. I am trying to make new friends on LJ because I have made some amazing friends online before. Is it okay if I add you??
Yes I am doing the actress thing, I moved to Los Angeles about a year and a half ago. I come from Missouri myself, so I can totally identify with the small town girl/actress trying to move to the big city to pursue her dreams. I am on the same page for sure! I'd love to hear about your journey or what happens next for you.
I have seen you in Lit Quotes plenty of times, and you have commented on some of the quotes I have shared. You sure seem to have style! I would like to add you.
Hi there, Just wanted to say that I love the Marilyn Community you have helped to create (1962). I just adore Marilyn and after work, I look forward to seeing new posts about my idol. Keep up the fantastic work!
